New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio is set to instruct NYPD to stop arrests of New Yorkers smoking weed in public while additionally forming a task force to ease what he sees as an inevitable full-on legalization of recreational marijuana.De Blasio will direct the New York Police Department to hand out summonses — and not arrest — people caught smoking pot by officers in public areas across the city, aides told the New York Daily News Sunday. The move is partially a follow-up on his announcement last week to “overhaul and reform” enforcement that has created a wide racial disparity in marijuana arrests. But both de Blasio and New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, both critics of legalization, appear to be preparing the entire state for a legalization of marijuana they see as an inevitable policy shift regardless of their actions. “With marijuana legalization likely to occur in our state in the near future, it is critical our city plans for the public safety, health, and financial consequences involved,” he told the New York Daily News.  “While I still have real concerns we must work through, it isn’t difficult to see where this is headed, and any responsible policymaker must prepare for that eventuality. My focus now will be helping to craft the critical regulatory framework that must come before legalization is realized.”Recommended Slideshows53In Pictures: The Royal Brothers, Prince Harry the Groom and Prince William the Best Man2625 Weird Royal Rules Meghan Markle Must Now Follow51Royal Wedding: 50 Things to Know about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Upcoming MarriageAlthough marijuana would still remain illegal in New York City, the initial policy step in stopping public pot smoking arrests is intended to reduce a statistic uncovered by the New York Times that black people are eight times more likely to be arrested on misdemeanor marijuana charges than white, non-Hispanic New Yorkers. In Manhattan alone, black people were arrested at 15 times the rate of white people. A specific date for when public pot smoking arrests would stop was not released, but the move would be part of a 30-day review de Blasio ordered of racial disparities in marijuana arrests.Last week, de Blasio told WNYC radio he has a “great fear” that the “corporatization of the marijuana industry” could echo that of the U.S. tobacco industry’s flagrant targeting of children prior to the 1970s. This statement came after U.S. Sen. Chuck Schumer announced his plan to make federal marijuana law reforms and the Democratic party discussed making a legalization endorsement as part of their 2018 platform. Cuomo told a Brooklyn crowd Thursday that the legalization of recreational pot “for all intents and purposes it is going to be here anyway … the facts have changed.”But Cuomo, the long-time opponent of legalizing recreational weed, only announced his seemingly newfound support for the issue one day after rival Democratic gubernatorial hopeful Cynthia Nixon said in a Wednesday video, “We h

  1. legalize weed in New york!!! Alcohol kills so many people a day but I never heard anyone dieng from weed cmon now why are we even considering this?!?!? gateway drug? are you kidding me? if weed is legal you won't even know about street dealers. young kids are loosening their lives because they buy laced weed illegally from the streets. we need to put a stop to this. decriminalize weed. Every second weed is legal some innocent person gets hooked on shady weed sold on the streets. the biggest reason why weed has a horrible reputation is because of what street dealers make out of it! they take a amazing plant and turn it into a nightmare by mixing in toxic chemicals! We need marijuana legalized and processed by the state so there is no more deaths from people who think they where smoking real weed. Every time u buy weed illegally u have to go through the struggle of thinking if it's safe. Buying it from the state gives u relief knowing that these guys know what they are doing. how do you know what you just smoked from a shady street dealer? another reason why marijuana should be legal is because it will help people quit smoking and alcohol. people who care about their health but are hooked on cigarettes feal like in a cage. a cage with no key. some people say it's as bad as hard drugs like heroin. So if weed can free them out of this horrible environment why not! light your favorite strain and smoke up! let me not even mention how many new jobs it will create and give opportunities too, I personally have not seen anyone of my friends ever get hooked on weed. it's like the less deadly version of alcohol without the withdrawals too. everyone once in their lifetime should get to enjoy weed without the scare of it being illegal. plus since close states to new York have it legalized what's the point in having it illegal here when people can just drive from those states and bring illegal weed here. I've seen it happen so many times. The prices go crazy. but if the law regulates it I bet the price will go down too. Well if u reached this far into reading this I hope u agree, add ur name and copy and paste this around YouTube! (Detrail,YOURNAME)
